There's more land on the sides of the house and more backyard than you can see in the outdoor photos. Altogether there is 2/3 of an acre of land with the house, which is a whole lot more than we had with our townhouse in Virginia. Next time we go to Derby, KS will be for the closing in about a week and a half, and I plan on taking more pictures of the outside in order to share the yard and neighborhood feeling with friends and family.
We are going forward with buying the house and have worked out some of the kinks. Good thing that you generally have at least a month between having your offer accepted and closing on a house because it has allowed us to think about a lot and has given us times to make important decisions.
Our contract was contingent upon the inspection, which happened 1 1/2 weeks ago. The roof is not in good shape and there were a few other things that were found that have to be fixed, such as the sump pump and high levels of Radon. We were thinking the roof had to be replaced altogether before we got the house insured, but it turns out that insurance will cover it and with some repairs that the sellers are paying for, the house is definitely livable and enjoyable.
We are soooo looking forward to having our own place and getting out of this apartment. A big backyard to have the kids play in is what we are most looking forward to.
Upon moving in the only things that we really really will need is a fridge and washer and drier. The other expenses will come in time....I can live with carpet in the kitchen for a while...at least it is nice carpet.

Fun fact:
"Radon was a popular additive in products like toothpaste, hair creams and even food items in the early 20th century, due to its supposed curative powers."
